We have stayed at a number of RV resorts close enough to LA to make visiting enjoyable. Malibu Beach RV Park, offering year-round waterfront Rv sites, sits just along Pacific Coast Highway. It operates 142 Rv sites and up to 35 tent sites with an ocean or Mountain view. We loved the location, due to the proximity to Point Dume State Beach were we could walk, swim or go hiking along the cliffs to see sea lions, but it is expensive and very difficult to book. 
Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina, where we held our West Coast Rally, is more than just an RV resort and marina. Located in the heart of Newport Beach, this hidden gem, works as an excellent base to explore Disneyland, Corona Del Mar tide pools, Balboa Fun Zone, Newport beach and all that the OC has to offer.
A better option for us has always been using our Thousand Trails Membership and staying at the (Soledad Canyon) Rv Resort in Acton, CA.
One of the many benefits of this resort is it’s options to easily visit downtown Los Angeles or Hollywood. By car it’s about 45 minutes to where you can see a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, or walk the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 
Just a short car ride from Hollywood Boulevard is where you can hike to the top of the Hollywood sign. Click here to learn more about how we hiked this once in a lifetime opportunity.
Another must-do adventure is visiting Santa Monica Pier about an hour away. Day or night this wonderful attraction has rides, restaurants and will even host events like “Stranger Things 3” premiere.
Another bonus to this resort is how close it is to Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park which is about 25 minutes a way. Located in the high desert near the town of Aqua Dulce Springs, this area features 932 acres of spectacular rock formations. The rocks history began in prehistoric times when sandstone rocks were uplifted at a picturesque angle, showing their jagged red features. It is a great place to hike along the sandstone formations that the Lion King Movie was designed after.
The town of Palmdale has fast food, shopping and a Walmart Supercenter about 20 minutes away.
